Princes of Rock
by Suke

Because every proper anime has a rock star fanfic.

A roughly bi-daily (^_^; no, there's no such word. I mean every two days. What's that called?) updated fanfic, as far as I can help it.

Summary: Four of the hottest rock stars in the music business have decided to collaborate on a special year end Christmas concert. However, will the arrogant Atobe Keigo, charismatic Wakato Hiroshi, stubborn Fuji Yuuta and our sweet Oishi Shuichiroh, and their entourages, manage to get along long enough to have the show?

Will I ever get tired of clichés?

Finally an AU.

Rock-a-bye Christmas (Dec 1, 2003 -- Monday By Great Reporter Inui)

Rock a fine farewell to the ending year this Christmas as the four hottest young stars of rock and roll get together for a one-night-only concert on the twenty-fifth of December! Long known as the Princes of Rock, Atobe Keigo, Wakato Hiroshi, Fuji Yuuta and Oishi Shuichiroh have never shown any inclination of working together until the surprise announcement released last night.

The four rock musicians have never performed together and do not know each other personally. This is not particularly unusual (63%) given their varied personalities and rivalry for the top of the charts. What will happen now that they are forced to collaborate? Will they work well together (14%) or will new lines be drawn and enmities flourish (85%)?

A mad rush for tickets is expected (99%) when bookings open next Thursday. After all, all four artistes have extensive fan bases world wide. This is surely a coup for events organizer in charge, Banda Fun.

Stay tuned as this reporter will be bringing you in-depth background reports on everyone involved as well as on-site, behind-the-scenes news all the way from Japan where rehearsals will soon begin.

"Unnya, this is so exciting nya!" A red headed boy shouted, hands full of varicoloured plastic-wrapped CD cases, across the racks from the pop/rock section to the classical section.

His smiling friend looked up from his perusal of a list of songs on the back of a particular CD, only mild curiosity apparent in his gentle expression. He put the CD back on the rack and walked over to where the energetic red head was enthusiastically looking over seven different CDs at once.

"What is, Eiji?" The smiling boy questioned, craning his neck a little to look at the assorted CDs in case they held some clue to his companion's random comments.

"The concert Fuji, haven't you heard?" Kikumaru Eiji demanded, capitalising the letters of the word 'concert' while pointing insistently at one of the CDs.

"'Cares of the World' by Oishi Shuichiroh," Fuji read from the album cover before returning amused eyes to his agitated friend. "Haven't you already bought this one? Twice?"

"But, Fuji," Eiji pouted, twisting the hem of his shirt in his hands, "I needed one for the apartment and one for the studio."

"And what's this third one for?" Fuji asked.

"The concert, Fuji! You know, the concert!"

"Aa, the Christmas concert in the papers this morning?"

"Nya! It'll be in Japan and I'll get to go and I will ask him to sign it!" Eiji grinned excitedly, thinking of his favourite rock star holding his hand and smiling at him.

"Maa, you rabid fan, don't get a restraining order," Fuji teased, well aware of how much Eiji adored this singer.

"Hidoi, Fuji, how can you still smile and say something like that?" Eiji scowled at his friend while stacking up all seven CDs with a satisfied air.

"Maybe I'm smiling because I get to say things like that," Fuji mused quietly to himself, a bright smile belaying his good mood.

Eiji was already at the cashier's counter paying for his purchases. Two albums from each of the rock artistes performing at the concert except for Fuji Yuuta who had only released one album so far. All counted as research, he supposed. Eiji beamed and felt particularly industrious today. Fuji came alongside him, one CD in hand.

"Fuji Yuuta's 'Call me Yuuta'? Nya, Fuji, you could just ask your otouto to give you a copy! And you already have three of those!" Kikumaru pouted again.

"Aa," Fuji smiled more sweetly than before, "I'm going to ask Yuuta to sign this at the concert."

Eiji was about to reply when he realised that the hand he had reached out to take the paper bag holding his newly acquired 'research materials' did not come into contact with the said carrier.

"Nya?" Eiji turned to look at the spot he was sure the cashier had held the bag but now there was a pen hovering in its place.

The cashier had somehow also become five cashiers, all of whom had sparkly hearts in their eyes which were firmly fixed on both Eiji and Fuji. One of them was holding the hovering pen towards Eiji's hand and all of them were holding onto writing material of some kind.

"Eiji-san! I love you! You're so cute! I watch all your shows! Fuji-san! Please autograph this for me! I love you! I listen to your albums all the time! I saw your last concert! I love you! Take a picture with me!" and more of such fangirl screaming, autographing and dodging grasping hands later, the two friends burst out of the building and into the clasp of the bright, cold sunlight of a wintry mid-afternoon.

"Maa, Eiji," Fuji still had a smile on his face and a blush stinging his cheeks from the whipping wind. "You must be the most popular MTV VJ in the world, fancy being recognized in such a place."

"Unnya, and what about you, World-famous classical musician Fuji Syusuke? Nobody even listens to classical anymore but everybody knows who you are!"

The hyperactive red-haired boy grinned at his gently smiling friend. The red head tugs at the loose ends of his scarf, the flying corners of his unzipped jacket, his cap over his head. The other smoothes pale brown strands of hair with honey-toned fingers and tucks them behind an ear.

"How about some ice-cream? I know a really quiet place around here."

"It's the middle of winter, Fuji," Eiji looked askance for a moment. "Okay!"

Just Friends? (Dec 2 2003 -- Tuesday By Great Reporter Inui)

Pandemonium erupted at a small CD store just outside of town in the Kanagawa district earlier today when an odd couple were sported shopping together. Internationally acclaimed classical musician Fuji Syusuke and popular MTV VJ Kikumaru Eiji have long exhibited a close friendship that has astounded many due to their wildly mismatched personalities.

What could have brought these two together for such an ordinary task as shopping? A look at their purchases might reveal the answer. Both stars had bought the latest CD by Fuji Yuuta who is the younger brother of the tensai Fuji Syusuke. Fuji Yuuta was also interviewed by Kikumaru once for an MTV exclusive. Could this be the link between them?
