Everybody is a Star

This chapter is a sidetrack written for Silent Night. It can stand alone though, but of course, I hope you'll read the main fic. Thanks for reading, and please write me some comments, for Christmas' sake. Merry Christmas everyone!

Everybody is a Star
The room was silent, all that could be heard was their breathing. The taller boy leaning against an old bookshelf, the other leaning in his embrace, gazing out of the window. Outside, light specks of white fell gracefully, covering buildings, trees and landscapes. The sky was pitch dark and clear of clouds, only laced with numerous twinkling dots, which stood out in the vast expanse of darkness. Tezuka gently squeezed the svelte hands he was holding to check if the other was asleep. The fair-haired boy looked up.
“Hmm?”
“Nothing, just checking if you’re asleep.”
“I’m not. I’m thinking.”
“About?”
“The stars. They’re so pretty… Kunimitsu, do you think the stars belong to the sky? Or does the sky belong to the stars?”
“I don’t know. They’re just there.”
“I think they need each other. Just like humans.”
“Like humans?”
“Everybody is a star, and they have their own sky. Their sky is filled up with other stars, just like they’re filling up someone else’s sky.”
“Family and friends you mean?”
“Right.”
“But sometimes the sky is starless.”
“It’s not that it’s starless. There are stars somewhere out there, it’s just that they’re not bright enough to be seen amongst the darkness. Every sky has stars, and every star belongs to a sky.”
“Stars will cease to exist if there is no sky.”
“And skies will be nothing more than an empty stretch of darkness if there aren’t stars to twinkle and shine.”
“You have so many stars, how would you know which is which?”
Fuji smiled serenely.
“Of course I know. Every star shines in its own special way.”
He lifted his hand and pointed out of the window.
“You see that star? That’s you. You’re the brightest star in my sky.”
“You must be a falling star then.”
“Maa… you’reso mean. I deem you as my brightest star, and to you I’m a falling star.”
“Silly… How else could I have caught you?
Fuji chuckled softly and traced a finger over Tezuka’s lips lightly.
“You must have eaten a lot of Christmas candies, your lips are so sweet tonight.”
Tezuka lowered his head to claim a tender kiss.
“I didn’t. the only candy I tasted all night was you.”
Fuji’s lips pulled into a smile, one that was indeed sweeter than any candy. Strong arms circled tighter around his slender frame. He nuzzled his head against the other’s chest, feeling the fuzzy warmth from the other spread across his cheek. A muffled “I love you, Mitsu” was heard as he drifted off to sleep. A gentle smile blossomed on the other’s face as he fell into a sweet slumber as well.
