Cotton Candy

By: Dyaoka

Disclaimer: I don’t own the Prince of Tennis.

Notes/Warnings: Shounen-ai. I was just looking over my other fics and then suddenly, this one popped into my mind. One-shot. Again. Oh, and since I’ve only been to an amusement park three times my entire life, I’m not exactly sure what some of the things are called. And yes, I know, this is terribly unoriginal. :) This is sappy and sweet and…over-all…sweet. Like cotton candy!

Ryoma looked up at his red headed upperclassman as if he was insane. Well, Eiji might as well be insane for what he was suggesting.

Ryoma didn’t know how in the world he and Eiji, of all people, were hanging out. Maybe because of the fact that Momo had a date and everyone else was busy so Eiji decided to bug the smaller youth. Oh, how he should have just said he was busy! Ryoma hadn’t regret it when Eiji treated him to food, but now…

“It’s a carnival, Ochibi! Come on!” The red head was saying. The sun had started to set and the lights of the carnival lit up. There were many other people flocking there and Eiji was currently dragging Ryoma along with him. Ryoma scowled.

“I need to get home” Ryoma muttered, trying to get away, but Eiji had a firm grip on his arm.

“You’re not going to just ditch me, are you? Nya, you’re so mean, Ochibi!” the older youth gave Ryoma a look that should be banned. Ryoma sighed, surrendering to his upper classman’s pleading eyes. It was an irresistible look.

“Fine…fine…” Ryoma said, caving in. He saw that look being used on Oishi before and the vice-captain had all but caved in. Now, as the brunt of he look, Ryoma knew why Oishi had caved in. It was something that one could not resist…and just melted underneath the look. Eiji was too cute for his own good.

“Wai! Wai!” Eiji glomped the younger boy. “Thank you, Ochibi!”

Ryoma only sighed. “Let’s go” he muttered, shouldering his tennis bag. Eiji only beamed at him.

They bought their tickets and went in, marveling at the sight and at the amount of people. However, just as they went in, Ryoma nearly lost sight of Eiji. But a firm grip upon his hand pulled the younger boy along with his happy upper classman. They just happened to pass by knock the can down game, where Eiji had spotted “the most adorable teddy bear!” (as quoted…)

Ryoma only looked up at the teddy bear that hung on the wall. “Ochibi…” Ryoma jumped at the voice that was suddenly so close to his ear. “Get it for me, nya?”

“Get it yourself” Ryoma said coldly, trying to squirm away from the older youth.

“No. You go get it” Eiji said, pouting adorably. Ryoma sighed. Why can’t he ever win against the upper classmen?!

Ryoma looked over at the other youth, then to the teddy bear, then back to Eiji. “Fine…” Ryoma walked over to the booth and asked how to get the teddy bear.

“You’re going to have to knock at least eight cans down with ten hits” the man behind the booth said with a smirk. It was a near impossible feat to do, but of course, that was why that teddy bear was grand prize.

“If I knock ten cans down with ten hits, do I get an extra prize?” Ryoma asked. The man laughed.

“Sure, why not!” he doubted someone like Ryoma could hit ten down with only ten shots. “But first, ya gotta pay up. It would be two-hundred yen, kiddo.” Ryoma reached into his pockets and produced two 100 yen coin and handed it over to the man. He loaded up one of the plastic rifles and handed it over to Ryoma. “Ten shots, kid.”

Ryoma took the rifle and examined it for a while, then gave a shrug and leaned down onto the counter, aiming for the cans. His first shot was a miss.

“Che” Ryoma muttered under his breath as he poised to shoot again.

“To the right a bit more, nya” Eiji said from beside the younger boy. “Aim towards the right more.”

Glancing over to Eiji, Ryoma did as Eiji suggested. His second shot went true to the target, hitting and knocking the can over. He continued his feat and finished, ending up knocking over nine cans. The man behind the booth was amazed.

“Haha…you did good” the man said, taking the teddy bear and handing it to Ryoma, who promptly handed it to Eiji.

“You wanted it” Ryoma said with a bored tone. Eiji just squealed and hugged his new teddy bear. The man behind the booth only laughed. “Kids these days” he muttered under his breath.

“Ochibi!” Ryoma turned around at Eiji’s nickname for him. Eiji quickly tackled him; then hugged him tightly. “Thank you, nya!”

Ryoma had the decency to blush.

As they went around the carnival, Eiji went after many, many things, including prizes, food, and balloons. The younger of the two, Ryoma, found that he was dragged into many other games—Eiji had suddenly had Ryoma wrapped around his finger that it wasn’t funny. Ryoma briefly wondered how he was going to get unwrapped, but had a feeling it wasn’t going to be anytime soon. “Hoi, hoi! Ochibi!” Eiji said with a bright smile as he led brought back cotton candy. “Nya, let’s go on the ferris wheel!”

Ryoma only looked over at his upper classman and sighed. There certainly was no winning against the hyper red head. He smiled as Ryoma agreed and directed him towards the forming line at the ferris wheel. The wait, luckily, didn’t take too long. Eiji quickly ushered the younger boy onto it with a happy smile as he continued to eat the cotton candy.

“Don’t hog” Ryoma said as he snatched a bit of the quickly disappearing candy away from the other youth. Eiji only stuck his tongue out childishly at Ryoma. “And don’t stick your tongue out unless you’re planning to use it.”

Eiji blinked, then a strange, evil smile replaced the innocent one that he had. He leaned over, nearly pressing Ryoma against his seat, and ran his tongue across the other’s lips.

“Eiji-sempai! You licked me!” Ryoma had to squeal. For some odd reason, it sounded unnaturally high and Ryoma was aware that he was blushing…quite badly.

“Ochibi tastes like cotton candy” Eiji said, the wicked smile not leaving his face. Ryoma only blushed even deeper. “And who knew Ochibi can make even a tomato look pale, nya.” Ryoma did his best to scowl at the other, which had Eiji rolling in laughter.

“That wasn’t nice…” Ryoma muttered. Eiji did his best imitation of an angelic look. He succeeded in making Ryoma glaring at him.

“Ochibi’s too cute” Eiji said as he ruffled the other’s hair. Eiji just snickered as he changed his seat from sitting across from Ryoma to sitting down right next to the dark haired youth. “Nya, I’m sorry” Eiji said, though the hint of the evil smile was still there. Ryoma looked distrustfully at Eiji.

“Look!” Eiji suddenly exclaimed. He twisted his body around and pointed to something out the window. They were high up, near the top of the ferris wheel. “Nya, it’s pretty!” Indeed, since they were looking down at the sights of the carnival. The lights somehow seemed to light up the carnival with a magical glow, since the sun has set. Though, they were too high up to see, they knew that there was merry-making all around and smiles and laughter on many of the people’s faces.

Ryoma allowed himself to smile at this peaceful moment. It wasn’t his usual arrogant smirk, but a soft smile, one that only his family and Karupin have seen. Of course, he looked up, when he felt another’s gaze on him. Eiji was smiling lightly too. “Ochibi looks nice when he smiles” Eiji said, leaning in a bit closer. Ryoma blinked. Eiji certainly had a lot of that cotton candy…

Following Ryoma’s gaze, Eiji held up the cotton candy bag with an apologetic smile. “Ah…sorry! I ate it all, nya…”

“Oh well” Ryoma said with a shrug, deciding to look out the window in the meanwhile. A strange sort of silence filled the tiny room.

“Nya…Ochibi” Eiji said suddenly.

“What is it?” Ryoma looked up the older youth.

“Are you mad at me?”

Ryoma blinked confusedly. “Why?”

“Because…you’re suddenly so silent, nya!” Eiji said, a sort of a pout upon his face. Ryoma smirked and brought himself to hug the older youth.

“Eiji-sempai, you smell like cotton candy” was all Ryoma said to tell the other that he wasn’t mad at him. When he pulled back, he noticed that Eiji seemed to be in some sort of stupor.

“Unya…” Eiji was suddenly shuffling his feet, looking kind of flushed in the face.

“Oh…is Eiji-sempai blushing?” Ryoma couldn’t help but tease.

“Ochibi!”

Ryoma smirked as Eiji continued to shuffle his feet. Ryoma’s smirk turned to a frown as the sound started to get upon his nerves. “Could you stop that?”

“Stop what?”

“That” Ryoma said crossly, pointing at Eiji’s feet.

“Why?”

“It’s…annoying” Ryoma answered, failing to come up with a better explanation. Eiji only grinned.

“Nya” Eiji said and then draped his feet over Ryoma’s lap. “There.”

“Eiji-sempai!” Ryoma glared at the red head, ready to shove the offending legs off of his lap. But Eiji had leaned forward the moment Ryoma turned his head and captured him into a kiss. Ryoma only managed an indignant squawk that sounded like a strangled duck.

“Ochibi shouldn’t glare” Eiji said, having opted to have a smirk upon his face. Ryoma felt his cheeks go hot. Then, rather abruptly, Eiji swung his legs off of Ryoma and stood up, gathering the teddy bear into his arms, the smirk still upon his face. Apparently, the ride was over.

They opened the door and walked out, chatting away like most people were, the incidents on the ferris wheel forgotten. Well, actually, it was Eiji that was doing most of the talking (and teasing) whilst Ryoma would just listen and wonder how could his red headed upper classman talk so much at one time.

They left the carnival soon after, seeing that it was starting to get late. Eiji had decided to walk Ryoma home, since he “is responsible for Ochibi!” Ryoma had only sighed, but allowed a soft smile to grace upon his features. It disappeared quickly, though, but Eiji had caught sight of it and returned it with a happy smile of his own.

All too soon, did it seem that Ryoma arrived at his home.

“Nya, Ochibi’s home is in front of a temple,” Eiji observed. “You don’t seem like a monk.”

“Of course not” Ryoma growled. “I don’t plan to be a monk either.”

Eiji only giggled, leaned down and snatched another kiss from his lower classman. Ryoma found himself latching onto the red head, pulling the other closer for better leverage…damn his short height. Eiji’s lips were sticky and sweet, from the cotton candy. Not that Ryoma really minded…

Eiji pulled away slightly, his eyes sort of glazed over as he looked over at Ryoma. The two burst into giggles and fits of laughter for unknown reasons. “Nya, I’ll talk to you tomorrow Ochibi” Eiji said, ruffling the golden-eyed boy’s hair. Ryoma nodded and opened the gate that lead up to his house, watching till the other disappeared from view.

“Ah! I told you!” Nanjirou exclaimed the moment Ryoma walked into the living room. “He’s been with some girl! You can tell!”

“Oh my…” Nanako said as she saw Ryoma.

“What?” Ryoma growled at his cousin and father.

“Man, it must have been some girl. Your lips are swollen!” Nanjirou said in between laughter. “Ah…little Ryoma’s growing up. Now spill all the details, brat!”

Ryoma only leveled his father his best glare.
